The price of petrol, diesel and kerosene was reduced by Rf2.40, Rf2.00 and Rf2.80 respectively on Monday. The changes brought to the fuel prices mean that the price of petrol litre has now been reduced to Rf8.50, diesel to Rf8.75 and kerosene to Rf8.90.

This is the ninth time since 12 August that the State Trading Organization (STO) has reduced fuel prices.

Petroleum and Petroleum Resources Minister A.H.M. Fowzie says that the government is charging a levy of Rs. 62 per litre of petrol at the moment.
Responding to a question raised by the Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the parliament this morning the Minister said the government has reduced this levy by Rs. 29 in the last fuel price revision.

The government on Monday reduced petrol prices by Rs 5 per litre and revised diesel and kerosene prices upward by Rs 3.50 a litre. A formal notification of the new oil prices was issued by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) late Monday night. The changed prices will be effective from September 16.
