New Delhi Water should be appropriately priced for the industry to sustain high growth and to ensure its efficient use, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said today. "There should not be any reluctance in dealing with water pricing when you are dealing with the industry," he told reporters at a Ficci event.

At present, water is highly under-priced for agricultural and industrial use. He further said, "If we want to sustain high growth the for the next 10 or 20 years, then there is simply no doubt that we can not continue to use water as inefficiently as we are doing".

The Union Government on Tuesday approved extension of the Delhi Metro from Mundka to Bahadurgarh in Haryana. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of Empowered Group of Ministers headed by Union Defence Minister A. K. Antony here.

Construction on the 11.182- km-long route would commence later this year. It will be completed by March 2016. The route will have seven stations: Mundka Industrial Area, Ghevra, Tikri Kalan, Tikri Border, Modern Industrial Estate, Bahadurgarh Bus Stand and City Park.

NEW DELHI, 6 AUG: A special commission will soon be set up to fix a minimum support price for forest produce sold by tribals to earn their livelihoods, the Centre announced today.

The Planning Commission on Monday approved a Plan outlay of Rs.16,300 crore for 2012-13 for Jharkhand, representing an increase of 25 per cent over the previous fiscal.

The outlay was finalised at a meeting here between Chief Minister Arjun Munda and Planning Commission Deputy Chairperson Montek Singh Ahluwalia. “We have approved a Plan size of Rs.16,300 crore which is the level the State Government has asked for,” Mr. Ahluwalia told reporters after the meeting.

New Delhi In a move that is expected to benefit millions of people earning their livelihood from the forest, the government has decided to appoint a special commission for fixing minimum support price (MSP) for minor forest produce like bamboo, mahua and tendu leaves.

The commission is expected to be appointed by January 2013 under the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation (Trifed), tribal affairs minister V Kishore Chandra Deo said on Monday. The Planning Commission has already given its approval for setting up such a commission. “There is a procedure for setting up a commission. We have received a go ahead from the Planning Commission and Trifed will be its nodal agency,” Deo said.

New Delhi Poverty in India has come down to 26 per cent as per the latest data of household expenditure prepared by the NSSO for 2011-12, the Planning Commission said today.

"Many of the academicians...said that poverty in 2011-12 using the Tendulkar line would probably be around 26 per cent or little more than that which is much lower than what it was in 2000, " Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia told reporters.
