This was finalised at a meeting between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and State Chief Minister Ibobi Singh on Wednesday. The Annual Plan for Manipur for 2012-13 was on Wednesday pegged at Rs.3,500 crore at a meeting here between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.

During the discussions on the State's performance, Mr. Ahluwalia pointed out that while Manipur has been performing satisfactorily, the gaps in infrastructure needed to be bridged on priority basis and that the State government should encourage private participation in development of this sector.

A day after a Right to Information query revealed that the Planning Commission had splurged over Rs. 30 lakh on renovating toilets at its headquarters in Delhi, the Commission disputed that it was wasteful expenditure. The Commission said the amount was spent on a set of six “toilet blocks” with multiple seats and facilities for the differently-abled. It also described the renovation as “routine maintenance,” required in an old building having an antiquated plumbing system.

The Annual Plan for Assam for 2012-13 was on Tuesday finalised at Rs.10,500 crore at a meeting here between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. At this level, the Plan size is over 16% higher than the outlay for the previous fiscal.

Initiating discussions with Mr. Gogoi on Assam's performance, Mr. Ahluwalia lauded the steady improvement in gross state domestic product (GSDP) growth during the first three years of the 11th Plan. GSDP growth (at 2004-05 prices) improved from 4.81% in 2007-08 to 6.82% in 2008-09 and is estimated at 8.08% in 2009-10.

The government has chosen home minister P Chidambaram to head the group of ministers (GOM) to decide on a regulator for the coal sector.
