CHINSURAH, 8 JUNE: A day after the country saw the Bhopal gas tragedy verdict being delivered, villagers in Haripal block of Hooghly got quite a scare, after many fell ill, alleging that gas emitted from a local factory, Himadri Chemicals, led to the incident.

Three cleaners who went into a manhole in a banquet hall at Adarsh Nagar area died from toxic gases on Tuesday afternoon.

After Municipal Corporation of Faridabad, the Gurgaon civic body has also purchased a Rs 65-lakh super suction pump and a dumping tanker to free sewage lines of sludge.

According to Gurgaon municipal commissioner Rajesh Khullar, the machine was first used in Chakkapur village on trial basis. The corporation now plans to clean sewage lines in Feroz Gandhi Colony and Sheetla Mata road soon.
