THE government will kick-start the bidding process for the 4,000 mw Orissa power project this week, undeterred by the setback suffered by the Chhattisgarh ultra mega power project that faces uncertainty over allocation of captive coal blocks.

BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) and the Western Electricity Supply Company (WESCO) have been instructed to upgrade the grid substations, enhance the capacity of distribution transformers and replace conductors in a time bound manner in Kalahandi district.

MUKESH Ambani-promoted Reliance Industries (RIL) may foray into nuclear energy after being freed from a non-compete agreement with the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) that barred it from investing in some businesses, including power.

RELIANCE Industries, freed from its non-compete agreement with the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) that barred it from investing in high-growth sectors, is likely to make its first big-ticket investment in coal-fired power plants.

New Delhi: If the energy sector is the biggest contributor of greenhouse (GHG) gas emissions in the country, it is also showcasing some of the best examples of reducing emissions, according to FE-EVI Green Business Survey 2009-10.

The GIM is likely to witness several companies sign MoUs with the State Government for production of 12,000 MW of power.

Half of that much power, 6,000 MW is expected to be generated through non-conventional sources. As many as four gas-based power projects are also coming up. The total investment in the sector is expected to be Rs 79,140 crore.
