New Delhi, June 19 The Centre has cleared the implementation of a 100 MW gas-based power project in Tripura.

The project would be set up by the State-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (Neepco) at a cost of Rs 421 crore, according to a decision taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs here on Friday.

There is no consensus in the State Cabinet on the Tadadi power plant project. Minister for Environment and Ecology Krishna Palemar has opposed the project alleging that it will have adverse effects on the ecology of the region.

KPCL plans to increase power generation to 14,000 MW by 2014: K S Eshwarappa

The State government has chalked out plans to gradually increase power generation over the next three years.

Briefing reporters on Tuesday after a review meeting of the Chief Minister, Minister for Energy K S Eshwarappa said that 2,000 MW would be added to the existing 7,000 MW, in the year 2009-10.
