NEW DELHI: Faced with a 200-MW shortfall and with no relief in sight from the Damodar Valley Corporation that had assured of providing 400 MW of power, Delhi has now turned to Jammu and Kashmir for help.

The Karnataka government has targetted to add 5,000 mw of energy into the state's grid in the next five years to ease the power shortage, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said.

Recent share placements by renewable energy companies suggest the industry has passed through a financial bottleneck, but investor appetite for further stock sales could vanish as quickly as it surfaced.

The definition of renewable energy seems clear cut: The sun continues to shine, so solar energy is renewable. The wind continues to blow, so wind turbines churn out renewable power.

Ramping up the addition of power generation capacity in the country will be one of the key issues the new power minister would address, according to the power ministry, which has drawn up a list of priority areas.

Anil Ambani-led Reliance Power will invest over Rs 12,000 crore for executing 2,520-MW hydro power projects in Arunachal Pradesh, to be commissioned in the next Five Year Plan (2012-17).

"Reliance Power has signed an agreement with the Arunachal Pradesh government for developing 2,520 MW of hydro power projects in the state," a Reliance Power spokesperson said.

Suntech Power Holdings Inc and ReneSola Ltd lowered their full-year forecasts on Thursday as the credit crisis has choked off funding for renewable energy projects, sending shares of the Chinese solar power companies down sharply.
