In more than 100 villages, the Chandigarh-Phagwara express highway, which will pass through Mohali, Chamkaur Sahib, Machhiwara, Nawanshahr and Phagwara areas, has become an election issue. Most of the farmers, who have been issued notices for the acquisition of their land for the project, are opposed to the highway project.
