Way Paved For Preparing Detailed Project Report On Light Rail Transit System Too TIMES NEWS NETWORK The monorail and light rail transit (LRT) system have moved a step forward. Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) put forward a techno-economic feasibility study on the projects before Delhi government on Thursday paving the way for beginning a detailed project report (DPR) to assess its execution. The three lines of LRT and three monorail corridors are estimated to cost Rs 5,738 crore and Rs 6,893 crore respectively.

However, it has agreed to bear only one-third of the project cost. The railways had urged the state government to share half of the project cost. The local CPI-M MP for Dum Dum, Mr Amitabha Nandy, has been quite keen on the project, taking it up with the Union railway minister, Mr Lalu Prasad. The total estimated cost of the project has been pegged at Rs 537 crore.

The Central Railway (CR) on Thursday launched the 'GO Mumbai' smartcard, a first-of-its-kind travel card which works like a pre-paid telephone card, and can be used for travel on the main line of CR, its Harbour line and BEST buses. "This is a red-letter day. A journey begins with buying a ticket and serpentine queues can be extremely cumbersome for passengers. The 'GO Mumbai' smartcard is one of the steps we have taken to permanently terminate these long queues," said general manager of CR, Sowmya Raghavan, who unveiled the card.
