: Despite the fact that the provincial capital is in grip of pollution, the forest department has started cutting hundreds of valuable trees on both sides of the Warsak road.

Thousands of farmers from 20 villages in Sadar upazila staged a demonstration here yesterday protesting the government decision to acquire their croplands for the construction of a road.

Over 5,000 farmers, including women and children, held a protest rally at Kashipur and formed a 21-member committee to protect their lands.

SHIMLA: The hill State of Himachal has the highest road density among the entire hill States of India, which as per the latest study is 53km per 100sq. kms, claimed a government spokesman here on Sunday. He said the State Government is providing high priority to the development and maintenance of roads in the State, as roads are vital infrastructure for rapid economic growth of the State.

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government has earmarked Rs.200 crore for construction of cemented streets in all the villages of the State during 2008-09.
