Ranchi, June 27: Former Union rural development secretary K.B. Saxena today called upon villagers to oppose moves by corporates and the state forest department to plant bamboo, eucalyptus and other exotic varieties of trees on village lands.

The need to support the rural sector has been well recognised and the efforts in this direction have been enormous and institutions set up to aid this sector are aplenty.

The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved a Rural Development Ministry proposal to launch the National Rural Livelihood Mission that aims to reduce poverty in a time-bound manner through provision of diversified employment opportunities and skill development.

Bhopal : The monitoring of work under water catchment area mission will be made more effective. Under the mission the work will be done by fixing personal responsibility. Inter-district monitoring system will be introduced for valuation of the works.

Focusing on pro viding skills to the unemployed rural youth, the government is all set to bury the unproductive Swarnjayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY), replacing it with the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM).

Rural level micro plans will be chalked out for sustainable exploitation of natural resources and making rain-fed agriculture profitable. Under the micro plans, several works of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme will be taken up in an integrated way with the convergence of other government schemes and programmes.
