SALEM: Over 5 lakh children aged below five years in Salem and Namakkal districts were administered polio drops in the second round of the pulse polio immunisation campaign held on Sunday.

Awareness programmes were organised to dispel the misconceptions about the administration of polio drops and encourage people to immunise their children against polio.

SALEM: The Jyothi Talkies East Street at Ammapet in the city has been stinking for a week now.

The residents say that garbage mounts could be seen on this street and in many other areas at Ammapet since the Corporation rarely collects and dispose them off.

Shops and business establishments on the banks of the river dump their waste including plastics and used leaves, into it.

SALEM: Various drinking water supply works such as sustaining ground water levels, providing water supply to added areas, construction of overhead tanks, water supply improvement schemes etc have been undertaken both in rural and urban areas in Salem district during the past 30 months at an estimated outlay of Rs 65.69 crore.
