SILCHAR, Feb 4: The progress so far made in respect of schemes and projects came in for review at the district development committee meeting held today under the presidentship of Gautam Ganguli at the Cachar DC conference hall today.

The erosion by Barak river has expanded by a range of 5 km near Panchgram, which includes the villages like Kalarpar, Das Colony, Katakhal and Tukargram. People from these villages, like Satyendra Singha, Biswas Singha and Birendra Singha, have discovered cracks in their RCC buildings. Altogether, 20 families have been rendered homeless.

State Minister for Urban Development Dinesh Prasad Gowala recently urged the farmers of Cachar district to seek assistance from the Agriculture and Irrigation departments in view of the prevailing drought-like situation.

Dinesh Prasad Goala, Minister of Urban Development and Housing recently announced new projects to be implemented in Barak Valley soon. Goala said that there will be a new water supply scheme worth Rs 8.15 crore in the Lakhipur sub division of Cachar district. There will be storm water drain both in Lakhipur sub division and Hailakandi district worth Rs 7.83 & 9.92 crores respectively. Commercial complexes both in Hailakandi and Lakhipur sub division have been santioned. In Saptagram of Karimganj district there will be a town hall.
