Aug. 19: The Delhi government is planning to acquire land in the desert areas of Rajasthan to set up solar power plants in its efforts to boost availability of power in the city.

Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), a partner organisation of the government, is planning to set up multipurpose Solar Irrigation System (SIS) in off-grid areas of the country which is expected to help save some 750 mw of electricity.

New Delhi, Aug. 10 The Government is likely to roll out a plan to add 20 giggawatt (20,000 MW) solar-based power generation capacity. This was shared by the Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Mr Deepak Gupta, here on Monday.

IBM is pushing ahead into providing technology services to manage water, a market $10 billion market that the company sees growing quickly.

"This to me is an area that's really going to explode in the next three to five years," said Sharon Nunes, who heads IBM's Big Green Innovations initiative. "People see it as a gap. The water market is transforming."

The World Bank has offered 130 million US dollar as long-term credit to install solar energy panels as the country planned to add 1,445megawatt electricity to the system by 2014 under a desperate campaign exploring various means.

Hyderabad, Aug. 6 The grid-based interactive solar power generation projects may get a generation-based incentive from the Centre in addition to the tariff fixed by the State Utility.

The Environment Protection Department (EPD) is initiating a solar energy project in southern Punjab, an official told Dawn.

The project cost is about Rs84 million and Rs34.505 million has been earmarked for the current year, says EPD Director General Shagufta Shahjahan.

She says two types of alternate energy packages will be introduced under the project.

The green technology is gaining ground in Bangladesh, as several sectors are adopting the innovations, thanks to growing campaigns against carbon emissions, the lead contributor to global warming.
