Lahore Composting Plant is currently operating with a capacity of 300 tons per day (TPD). It will be expanded to 1,000 TPD by 2009 with a possibility of further expansion up to 1,500 TPD. All these expansions can be materialised within the present premises of LCL with the co-operation of World Bank at a total cost of $5.524 million.

KANCHEEPURAM: The Tiruporur town panchayat has started producing natural manure from biodegradable waste collected from households and establishments in the area.

Hyderabad, Sept. 22: Sidelining the concerns over the health effects of dioxin and furan emissions into the atmosphere from incinerators, four more incinerator-based common bio-medical waste treatment plants are being planned in the state. The facilities will be set up by private entrepreneurs in Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Nellore and Medak districts in about six months.

DLF residents staged a mass-protest rally against illegal dumping of garbage at Gurgaon-Faridabad Road in the Aravali range of hills near the dumping site. Star cricketer Yuvraj Singh among other prominent CEOs, doctors, CAs also participated in the rally and demanded that garbage dumping be stopped immediately as it was putting health and hygiene conditions of the entire area under threat.
