BHUBANESWAR: Minister for Steel and Mines Raghunath Mohanty today said more than 1.42 crore tonne iron ore was exported during 200910 from the State. In a written reply to a question from Santosh Singh Saluja (Cong), Mohanty said besides the exported quantity, over 4.8 crore tonne iron ore was dispatched from different mines to some parts of the State as well as outside.

ROURKELA: After the initial signs of robust monsoon, rain has begun to play truant raising fear of another bad kharif season on the trot in the rainfed tribal district of Sundargarh. Fear is writ large on the faces of marginal tribal farmers living from hand to mouth, as another bad crop season can spell doom for them.

Except the district headquarters town of Sundargarh, other parts of the district reported heavy to moderate rainfall leading to a rise in water level in various natural water bodies.

ROURKELA: Even as vegetable prices continue to soar, the horticulture potential of the Sundargarh district is not being tapped. If done properly, it could come handy in keeping vegetable prices under check across the year.
