Obalapuram Mining Co Can Resume Mining In Undisputed Areas Of Andhra: SC

IN A reprieve to Reddy brothers G Janardhana and G Karunakara, the Supreme Court on Monday allowed their firm, Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), to resume mining operations in the undisputed lease areas of Andhra Pradesh.

With the Survey of India finding discrepancies in mining operations by Reddy brothers in Bellary forest area, the Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its order on the fate of future mining activity till final demarcation of mining boundaries is undertaken.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its order on permitting Karnataka ministers G Janardhana Reddy and G Karunakara Reddy to carry on mining in the three mines owned by their Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) at Ananthapur adjoining the Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh border.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved verdict on the plea of the Reddy brothers to allow mining operations in the Obulapuram mines in the reserve forests bordering Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

In what can deal a major blow to the mining business of the Reddy brothers, two of whom are Cabinet ministers in Karnataka, the Survey of India has recommended that the Andhra Pradesh government should redraw the leases of all their four mines, and continue with the ban on their mining activities until the demarcation is complete.

New Delhi: Considering the major discrepancies in the lease sketches of six Obulapuram mines, including three belonging to the Reddy brothers in the Bellary Reserved Forest Area, the Survey of India (SoI) has told the Supreme Court that the entire lease sketches should be reviewed and no mining allowed during the demarcation work.

BHUBANESWAR: This April, Forest Survey of India recorded at least 960 incidents of forest fire in Orissa, as captured by the satellite.

The Survey of India team led by Maj Gen Ashok Kumar Peda, which is surveying mines area of Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) owned by Tourism minister G Janardhan Reddy, will submit its report to the Supreme Court on April 22.

The resignation of Union Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor has now put the focus strongly on how the Bhartiya Janata Party, the principal Opposition party at the Centre, has shielded the Reddy brothers -- two out of three are Cabinet ministers in the BJP government in Karnataka -- despite serious allegations of illegal mining by their companies.
