NEW DELHI: After having shown a slight decline in numbers, swine flu seems to have made a return with the number of cases climbing up in the Capital over the past one week. The number of children testing positive for the flu too have registered an increase.

The CMCH, Ludhiana, CMCH, Vellore, St Johns Medical College and Hospital, Bangalore, Medical College, Pune, and Medical College, Bangalore, have been chosen by the Ministry of Health, Government of India, to carry out the trials of the preventive H1N1vaccine in India.

The city on Thursday recorded 176 fresh cases of H1N1 flu, the highest for a day since the outbreak of the disease, leading to speculation that the city was witnessing the second wave of the disease.

The animal trials for the much-awaited H1N1 vaccine have been completed by the Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII). The Institute is hopeful of beginning human clinical trials by December 15.

The firm, which sent a report on the attenuated intranasal spray tests on animals to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) on Tuesday, is eyeing a March deadline to bring out the vaccine.

As the number of swine flu cases escalate in the national Capital, the Delhi government plans to spread more awareness about the H1N1 virus with a slew of ads in newspapers in the coming week.

Two more people have been confirmed positive for Influenza A in Maldives raising Influenza A positive cases to 35. The two people confirmed positive include a 30 year old man from Gnaviyani atoll Fuvahmullah and a 16 year old girl from Vaavu atoll Thinadhoo.

Day by day, Influenza A confirmed cases are rising in the country.

As the influenza A (H1N1) grip is becoming stronger with winters fast nearing, the Delhi health department has decided to allow 200-bedded Sri Action Balaji Hospital in the city to treat patients suffering from H1N1 flu.

Two fresh cases of swine flu have been detected in the district in the last three days, which has taken the toll of swine flu patients to seven in the district so far.

The first case was detected at Dagshai Public School where a student who had gone back to his native place at Ambala was tested positive for H1N1 while the second case had surfaced in Parwanoo.

In the week between October 6 and 12, the number of H1N1 influenza cases reported each day stood between 29 and 35. In the past week, the average number of patients confirmed with the disease went up to 57 per day.
