Bangalore, Pune: A 26-year-old teacher became the first swine flu fatality in Bangalore on Thursday, while the pandemic claimed three more lives in Pune , taking the total death toll in the city to 13 and 20 across the country. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the government is doing its best and people should not panic.

Aug. 13: A public interest litigation was filed in the AP High Court on Thursday seeking a directive to the state government to make wearing of masks in public places mandatory to prevent the spread of the H1N1 virus in the state.

A TEAM headed by the chief of National Institute of Communicable Diseases, Dr Shiv Lal, has arrived in Mumbai to help the state government strategize to curb the spread of the deadly H1N1 virus which has already claimed 13 lives in the state, the largest number of deaths in any state of the country.

MUMBAI: Six more persons died of swine flu

Mizoram today stepped up vigil along the border after some persons infected with swine flu were detected in neighbouring Manipur, officials said.

Check posts in Mizoram-Manipur border village and other areas were on high alert and ban on import of pigs had been clamped, State Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Director Dr C Sangnghina said.

AIZAWL, Aug 10: Many families in Mizoram were saying no to pork in their Sunday morning meals since 1,000 pigs have died of swine flu so far.
Official sources here today said there had been no report of swine flu in human beings so far, adding the dead pigs were confined to the districts of Lawngtlai and Lunglei bordering Myanmar and Kolasib district bordering Asom.

ROURKELA: AMID reports of swine flu scare spreading in Orissa, the tribal-dominated Sundargarh district has taken precautionary measures to face the menace effectively. There has been no established positive case of the influenza, yet leaving nothing to chance the district health and veterinary administration have swung into action.

The swine flu scare has begun to grip the country with Pune, the worst hit, accounting for 221 of the 327 cases reported in Maharashtra thus far.

Across the country, 864 people have been affected, of whom, 523 have been treated and discharged; the rest are still under treatment.

Swine flu deaths spread beyond the western region claiming the life of a four-year-old boy in Chennai and two more persons from Pune fell victims raising the toll to seven today, as a worried Centre roped in private hospitals to join the battle against the disease.
