From New Year day, industrial units in Tamil Nadu will declare a two-day power holiday per week to tide over the power crisis. However, TNEB will provide uninterrupted power supply to the units for all the five working days.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting convened by Minister for Electricity Arcot N Veerasamy with industrialists at the State Secretariat here on Monday.

The Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has lauded the wind energy sector for having come to the rescue of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board during the peak wind season.

The work on the 1,500-megawatt Vallur thermal power project is in full swing. The site, located 40 km north of the city, is full of activity, with teeming workers, cranes, pile machines and concrete mixers working overtime to catch up with the schedule.

The environmental clearance offered to the Koodankulam reactors in Tamil Nadu is not based upon a careful examination of all the potential impacts on the environment and livelihoods nor does it incorporate public concerns.
