BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Rajya Khanij Nigam has signed a memorandum of understanding for setting up a 660-MW thermal power plant in Singrauli district for production of coal from Dongri tal-2 coal block there.

The agreement was signed by Madhya Pradesh Rajya Khanij Nigam Managing Director S. K. Mishra and the Managing Director of Jai Prakash Associates Ltd, Sunny Gaur.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed here today for production of coal from Dongri Tal-2 coal block in district Singrauli, which has been allotted by the government of India to Madhya Pradesh Rajya Khanij Nigam and setting up a 660 MW thermal power plant based on it.

The Association of Engineers, Assam State Electricity Board (AoE, ASEB) has vehemently opposed the decision of the State Government for handing over the urban distribution circles to the private sector under a franchisee programme.

The State High Level Clearance Committee (SHLCC) headed by Chief Minister Yeddyurappa on Wednesday cleared 12 mega projects with an investment potential of Rs 7,080.38 crore, including two 600-MW thermal power plants proposed by the Karnataka Power Corporation in Raichur.

The state electricity board has proposed public-private partnership for the three new thermal power projects, with a total generating capacity of 5000 MW.

Punjab was forced to undergo long power cuts for upto six hours after two units of the Ropar Thermal plant tripped today, leading to acute shortage of power. The state lost as much as 420 MW power on Friday due to the tripping of the two thermal power generation units at the Ropar power plant.

The JP Group has emerged as the lowest bidder for the Karchana power plant to be established in Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh. The group quoted the lowest power production cost, Rs 2.970 per unit of power to be produced by the 2x660 megawatt plant.

The Jaffna Peninsula will be supplied with 24 hour uninterrupted power from early November, Power and Energy Ministry sources said.
The construction of the 36 MW thermal power plant in Chunnakkam has been completed and would be commissioned in early November, a Ministry spokesman said.

Power and Energy Ministry says the Jaffna peninsula is to receive uninterrupted power supply from November following the completion of the 36 MW thermal power plant in Chunnakkam.
A Ministry spokesman said the construction is near completion and the power station will start its operation early November.
