Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Tribunal on its own Motion regarding Sunderbans Forests Vs Union of India & Others dated 12/03/2019 regarding large scale falling of mangroves at Dhew Sagar on the Ganga Sagar Island which is an estuary of river Ganga in the Bay of Bengal which falls within the eco-sensitive Sunderbans area.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT), Eastern Bench on 1 July 2015 directed the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) to file a report on why mechanized boats, motor boats and launches using adulterated fuel and plying in the Sunderbans should not be asked to undergo pollution tests. Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Tribunal on its own Motion regarding Sunderbans Forests Vs Union of India and Ors dated 04/03/2015 regarding construction of houses on the mudflats of the river Matla under the Gitanjali Scheme of Housing. The Applicant has alleged that its causing illegal encroachment on the mangrove area of Sunderban forest and also causing violation of the CRZ regulations in Sunderban Biosphere Reserve.
