Tremors: Residents and fishermen in coastal areas put on tsunami alert

Bangalore and most parts of Karnataka are located in the least (seismic) active zone in the country, according to the seismic map of Indian Meteorological Department. The country is divided into five different zones, depending on the seismic activities. While zone one has the least activity, zone five has the highest. Parts of Malnad and Coastal regions of the State fall in zone two and three.

Bangalore: Rain woes continued on Friday also, with several parts of the State receiving heavy rainfall.  Four persons lost their lives - two in Belgaum and one each in Udupi and Kodagu districts. As many as 13 houses have partially collapsed in Haveri district, while several roads are inundated in Belgaum district.

 

Rain continued to pummel several parts of the State, claiming two lives and flooding houses and farmlands on Monday.

In the last three days, the coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada have recorded an average rainfall of 267 mm against the average rainfall of 108.9 mm recorded in the past 40 years, said the officers of the Revenue Department.
