NEW DELHI: The two hydro-electric power projects under construction on the Mandakini river need not be scrapped despite complaints from environmental activists, according to a recommendation made by a team of the Union Ministry of Environment & Forests.

NEW DELHI: The government has granted Rs. 25 crore for relocating 181 Gujjar families from the core regions of the Corbett Tiger Reserve.

To avoid conflicts

Over a period of time, a total of 400 families would be relocated to avoid man-animal conflicts in the reserve, a release by the Ministry of Environment and Forests said.

NEW DELHI: The Uttarakhand Annual Plan outlay for 2010-11 was finalised at Rs.6,800 crore at a meeting here on Monday between Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia and Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal. The sanctioned outlay is Rs.1,225 crore more than previous year's. It includes additional assistance of Rs.360 crore.

Dehra dun: Uttarakhand Government is planning to set up an authority with the aim of conserving Himalayan glaciers in the hill State.

The proposed Snow and Glaciers Authority (SGA) is expected to be headed by Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and will study the impact of climate change on nearly 1,400 big and small glaciers, top official sources said.
