Check mosquito breeding, instructs Health Minister

NEW DELHI: Worried after getting reports about a sharp increase in the number of dengue cases in the Capital, Delhi Health Minister Prof. Kiran Walia on Tuesday instructed the civic agencies and the health department to check mosquito breeding in the city.

With several pockets in the Capital hit by a rising number of dengue cases, Delhi Health Minister Prof. Kiran Walia on Monday announced the setting up of a task force to look into and suggest measures to control the menace.

The task force comprises officials from both the Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

The corporate sector has joined hands with the BMC in its war against malaria. As part of their corporate social responsibility, a number of organisations funded the initial lot of the Mosquito Larvicidal (ML) oil that the BMC procured on Saturday from the Indian Oil Corporation. It is believed that this oil would help control mosquito breeding in the city.

The civic body is taking all chances to check spread of malaria. On Wednesday, it sent samples of mosquito larvicidal (ML) oil it had stopped using since almost two years for testing to Haffkine Institute in Parel. If the report suggests that the oil is effective in destroying mosquito larvae, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation will shell out Rs1.62 crore to procure it.

New Delhi: In what could probably be a cause of worry for the Delhi government, the local civic body has found mosquitoes breeding at seven Commonwealth Games sites. It has issued notices to the officials concerned.

Hyderabad, Aug. 10: Almost one person in every 10 families of the state has been affected by one or another infectious disease this monsoon season.

Aug. 10: The monsoons and the floods have left many regions in the state vulnerable to outbreak of seasonal diseases including diarrhoea, malaria, cholera, jaundice and chikungunya.

According to the assistant malaria officer in Adilabad, Mr B. Venkateshwarlu, 92 positive malaria cases have so far been identified in the district.

Mumbai MNS chief Raj Thackeray once again blamed migrants in slums for the spread of malaria, asked party workers to launch a cleanliness drive and blamed the Shiv Sena-BJP-run BMC of giving deflated figures of malaria.
