Pune Dengue and malaria continue their surge in Pimpri-Chinchwad without any tangible efforts from the civic body to curb the menace. While malaria has crossed the 300 mark, dengue cases have reached 187 since January.

JEYPORE: With at least 20 malarial deaths in the last one week, the disease is taking epidemic proportions in Jeypore and Koraput sub-divisions under Koraput district. As many as 3,000 persons suffering from malarial fever were admitted to health centres in these sub-divisions. Of these, 80 per cent cases are of children.

As many as 1,028 cases of chikungunya and 402 dengue cases have been reported in the State since January 1 this year.

While Bangalore urban has registered highest number of 298 chikungunya cases, Dharwad district tops the list of number of dengue cases.

SHILLONG: Meghalaya has recorded 12,726 malaria cases, most of them from Garo Hills, in the first half of 2009, a two-fold increase compared with last year. Though 20 people have died of the disease this year, there is concern that the malaria situation may worsen in the next six months.

It is now clear that the Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS), which surfaced in the open, with 24 cases reported in one hospital alone, is more widespread in the City.

Many more cases have been reported in other city hospitals. Adults too have reportedly contracted the viral disease.
