The histopathological studies are useful in evaluating the pollution potential of toxicants since trace levels of chemicals do not bring about animal mortality over a given period and are capable of inducing considerable damage to organ.

The trace metal levels were studied in soil and water of Tipong, Tirap and Tikak Collieries of Makum Coal Field, Tinsukia, Assam. The toxic trace metals were analyzed using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). On the basis of the results obtained, it is clear that continuous mining operations have left permanent scars in the coalfield environmental scenario to a large extent.

The present study evaluated the options of silt disposal from Beas Satluj Link (BSL) hydroelectric project in Himachal Pradesh in India. BSL project is basically a run of the river power project, envisages diversion of about 4700 MCM per annum of Beas river water into Satlej river falling through an elevation difference at about 320 m.

The Aral Sea in Central Asia was the fourth-largest lake on the planet in 1960. By 2007 it had shrunk to 10 percent of its original size. Widespread, wasteful irrigation of the deserts along the Amu and Syr rivers, which feed the Aral, cut the freshwater inflow to a trickle. Nevertheless, a dam built in 2005 has helped the northernmost lake expand quickly and drop substantially in salinity.

Looking into the problem of NPS (Non-point sources) water pollution generated from agricultural activities, pollution prevention and pollution reduction initiatives, known as management measures are important. Use of the watershed approach is necessary to address water quality problems caused by NPS pollution. The watershed approach looks not only at a water body but also the entire area that drains into it.
