Grievance in the application is against damage to the ponds in village Morta, ward no. 20, Ghaziabad. It was stated that garbage is being dumped into the ponds on account of which there is foul smell in the area.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Arti Vs Central Ground Water Authority & Others dated 17/10/2022.

The matter related to unauthorized withdrawal of groundwater in major cities of Uttar Pradesh. The court noted that there is large scale illegal extraction of groundwater in Uttar Pradesh by hotels, marriage halls, party lawns including in areas which are scarce in availability of groundwater.

The Union Minister of Jal Shakti, released the Dynamic Ground Water Resource Assessment Report for the entire country for the year 2022. The assessment was carried out jointly by Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) and States/UTs, which can be used for taking suitable interventions by various stake-holders.

The Collector and District Magistrate-cum-Chairman, District Environment Impact Assessment Authority (DEIAA), Kendrapara has informed the NGT, Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata that due to flood, the work of preservation of the embankment of Brahmani river and Mahanadi river could not be commenced.

Joint committees have been constituted to find out hotels, marriage/banquet halls, resorts, guest houses in Lucknow, Agra, Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bareilly, Varanasi, Jhansi and Gorakhpur abstracting groundwater without NOC from the competent authority.

Once it is found that the land in question is a water body, nobody can be permitted to have mining activity in the water body and it is the duty of the state government to preserve and protect the water bodies, said the Supreme Court, September 23.
