Udaipur, Banswara and Dungarpur districts of southern Rajasthan have dominance of tribal population. In these districts besides other water resources, hand pumps are catering the need for drinking water. The present study was undertaken to assess the level of chemical and bacteriological status for comparing the water quality with the prevailing standards.

The authhor has explored the impact of increased responsibility for water management and decision-making in the communes within Madagascar's southern district of Ambovombe- Androy. Ambovombe-Androy is a semi-arid district that comprises 17 communes with marked levels of poverty. Limited water supply, extreme demand, and predatory operators drive water prices up to unaffordable levels.

During disaster, management of essential services is a daunting task. Water supply systems (WSS) are susceptible to natural disasters like earthquakes, floods and famine and also face threat from man-made disasters. Since water is the basic need of living being, restoring it is a major challenge to water engineers in such a scenarios.

For sustaining of a WSS over its design period, operation and maintenance cost should be fully recovered from the users. Therefore, willingness to pay and affordability survey of households in small and medium towns is a prerequisite for selection of proper scheme, its implementation and financial sustainability.
