The State government has submitted an action plan for the Bannerghatta night safari, before the High Court.

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday adjourned the matter related to the proposed night safari at Bannerghatta Biological Park to June 15.

Deepak, a City-based advocate has filed a petition seeking directions to the government to withdraw the Cabinet decision on night safari.

During peak season, ecoresorts are overflowing with tourists. Such numbers are unmanageable and place stress on the animal. Some parks may become less a national park and more a drive-through zoo.

When the tiger population is dwindling at an alarming rate and it has become a huge challenge to protect them even in the protected areas, the death of a 3-year-old tigress in the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday morning raises several questions, the most burning of them is whether or not the tigress was fatally hit by a vehicle carrying tourists.

KENDRAPARA: The Forest Department has banned tourists and visitors from venturing into Bhitarkanika National Park from May 15 to July 31 during mating and breeding of salt-water crocodiles. The department will also renovate five ponds at the Crocodile Breeding Centre at Dangamala within the park, said Prasanna Kumar Behera, DFO, Bhitarkanika National Park.

NEW DELHI: The Union Government is preparing ecotourism guidelines to promote responsible tourism involving the local community around tiger reserves, while at the same time regulating the mushrooming lodges which threaten wildlife habitats.

The Centre has denied that there is any plan or proposal to stop tourism in the tiger reserves of the country. It said that the tourism activities would be strictly regulated to ensure that ecologically sustainable tourism practices were followed.
