New Delhi, September 8 The bridge between ITO and Laxmi Nagar over River Yamuna, similar to the ones at Nizamuddin and ISBT, has always been a congested link for commuters. The Delhi Government plan to put up iron meshes along bridges to check river pollution does not seem to be working. People continue to throw waste, especially flowers and other materials used in pujas, after after cutting open the fence.

New Delhi, September 4 The Yamuna could have been tamed this monsoon, experts say, if the Centre and the Delhi government had carefully gone through two separate studies that highlighted the need to utilise the rush of water in the river every time it floods.

The predominant cause of water pollution in India is the presence of Fecal Coliform, mainly due to large amount of untreated sewage discharged into the water bodies. Many a times, even if treated sewage is discharged into a water body, still high Coliform levels remain as a significant pollution issue.
