GENERAL MOTORS (GM): In 1998, the US Environment Protection Agency (USEPA) announced that GM will recall about 400,000 cars of 1993 models because they exceed federal standards for carbon monoxide (CO). The recall includes Chevrolet Luminas, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supremes, Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick Regals. These models were found to have remote purge control solenoid, which control evaporative emissions. The company was asked to replace these devices with new and improved devices.

CHRYSLER AND MITSUBISHI: In 1999, both these companies were asked to recall their 1995 models as they exceeded federal standards for nitrogen oxides (NO X ). Approximately 50,000 vehicles required installation of new and improved fuel pressure regulators.

HONDA MOTOR COMPANY: According to USEPA, the company had equipped approximately 1.6 million 1995, 1996 and 1997 model year vehicles with a misfire detection system
