The forest at Chakaria in Cox Bazar district has been denuded. According to a report in The Bangladesh Observer influential people have undertaken construction on these lands thus destroying the valuable resources. The ministry of forests had leased out these forests in 1972, ingnoring the importance of ecological balance of the area.
