Nuclear toilet

Whether the state government of Lower Saxony in Germany likes it or not, it will be choked with nuclear waste that will not be recycled, but stored instead. Monika Griefahn, the fiery state environment minister was vociferously protesting ever since a nuclear legislation was passed last year declaring that spent uranium will be stored permanently in Germany. Griefahn argued that other more pro-nuclear states like Bavaria should be used as a "nuclear toilet". She refused to allow a 116-tonne steel container carrying uranium to enter the long-term storage facility at Gorleben in Lower Saxony.

However, the Federal government did not pay heed to the protests. Threatened with legal action, Griefahn was forced to abandon her stand.
