Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of ARK Nirman Pvt. Ltd. Vs. Subhas Datta and Others dated 02/03/2017 regarding pollution of river Mahananda, Siliguri, North Bengal during Chhat Puja. NGT Vide order dated 01.11.2016 had disallowed construction of bridges across the river Mahananda.
NGT took serious note of the affidavit filed by the DM, Darjeeling which mentioned construction of temporary bamboo bridges. NGT issues show cause notice to District Magistrate, Darjeeling and the Chairman, Siliguri Municipal Corporation for the non-compliance of the Order dated 1.11.2016.
