Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Kalinga Nagar Residents Welfare Association Vs Ministry of Urban Development & Housing, Govt. of Odisha & Others dated 24/08/2017 regarding sanitation and solid waste problems faced by residents of Kalinga Nagar-8, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. It is alleged that the solid waste management of the respondent Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) was inept as solid wastes are dumped in the open space in the residential area of KN-8 contributing further to the pollution of the environment.
NGT directs construction of STP within a period of one year and also instructs BMC to explore the possibility of installing solid waste-to-energy plant and composting plant for domestic bio-degradable waste.
