Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Prahlad Singh Patel Vs. State of Madhya Pradesh dated 13/09/2017 regarding regarding illegal mining of sand from Narmada river.

NGT directs that the senior most officer of mining department be present before the Tribunal on the next date of hearing and answer the following:-

1. Whether the private respondent had carried out any mining activity after the year of 1995, either legally or illegally, in the area which is the subject matter of the present application. What action was taken by the State Government to ensure that there was no mining in the area, legally or illegally, against the private respondent.

2. If the mining had been carried out by private respondent, whether it had caused any damage to the ecology and bio-diversity of flood plain of the river and/or to the adjacent area of the river thereto, then what action has been taken by the State Government against the private party.
