Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Subhas Datta Vs State of West Bengal & Others dated 22/11/207 regarding commercial establishments (hotels, lodges and restaurants) located in Buxa Tiger Reserve Forest Area.

NGT directs that that steps should be taken for ensuring that the Buxa Tiger Reserve Forest is made free from all encroachments. Further measures be taken to prevent settlement of any person and to prohibit any commercial activity to be undertaken within the protected area. Subhas Datta, the Applicant, has stated that there are several Govt. establishments also existing within the reserve forest area. NGT directs this claim to be examined by the West Bengal Government and appropriate affidavit be filed dealing with this aspect in their report.
