Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Gauri Maulekhi Vs. Union of India & Others dated 15/01/2018 regarding ground water pollution caused by M/s. Century Pulp & Paper Mill, Ghanshyamdham, Lalkua, Uttarakhand.
The remedial action plan submitted by the Joint Inspection Team comprising of senior scientists from University of Jammu, Central Pollution Control Board and IIT-Roorkee, Saharanpur has suggested that Century Paper Mill should install Mark II hand pumps in Bindukhatta, Shantipuri Villages/village alongside Paha drain and de-sludge the “ Paha nallah” at least upto 5 kms down and also carry out regular inspection of drain line. Further Century Paper Mill should explore the feasibility of use of treated effluent for irrigation purpose in a scientific and controlled manner.
