Sequence type 36 (ST36) Klebsiella pneumoniae is distributed worldwide. [2] We found an ST36 K. pneumoniae clinical isolate that was carbapenem resistant, carried blaKPC-2, had mucoid regulator gene rmpA, and exhibited high virulence. The finding suggests the emergence of carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent K. pneumoniae of ST36, and surveillance of carbapenem-resistant hypervirulent K. pneumoniae is required.
