Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Muzaffar Hussain, Ecosorz Foundation Vs State of Rajasthan dated 23/04/2019 regarding illegal extraction of ground water at Rawatbhata, District Chittorgarh, Rajasthan by water mafia for commercial purpose.

A report submitted by the District Magistrate, Chittorgarh, Rajasthan and Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) states that illegal extraction of ground water has been found for which notice has been issued and the matter may be dealt with by the Ground Water Department. NGT says that RSPCB has ample powers to issue any direction to the industry under the Water Act 1974 and the it should take action to recover compensation necessary for restoration of the environment so that illegal ground water extraction is effectively checked and illegal activity does not remain a profitable activity. For this purpose, NGT orders the State Pollution Control Board to take appropriate remedial action and furnish a report to the Tribunal within two months.
