Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Gajubha Jesar Jadeja Vs Union of India & Others dated 27/08/2019 regarding lack of Environment Clearance (EC) by M/s. Chromeni Steel Pvt. Ltd., Kutch District, Gujarat. Gajubha Jesar Jadeja has said that the manufacturing industry involved in cold rolled stainless steel was also extracting groundwater without approval from the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) and that once the unit gets started, it would generate "hazardous, carcinogenic substances like hexa-valent chromium and other heavy metals which ought to have been assessed by way of an EIA study."

To look into the matter the NGT directs constitution of a Committee comprising of the State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA), Gujarat, the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), the District Collector/Magistrate, Kutch District and the Regional Director, CGWA, who shall verify on the factual aspects set out in the original application and submit a report.
