Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Residents of Bhatpara Municipality Vs State of West Bengal dated 14/10/2019 regarding illegal sand mining in District North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, near Naihati Bandel Railway Bridge, Kanchrapara Bansberia Road Bridge at Jagatdal Meghna Ghat.

Report submitted by the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) and the letter of District Magistrate affirmed the presence of illegal mining and its closure but further time was requested to recover environmental compensation.

Latest affidavit filed by the SPCB in October 10, 2019 informed the Tribunal that the pollution control board was in the process of imposing environmental compensation. The NGT directed the SPCB to take further remedial action in accordance with law and to maintain an eye on illegal sand mining activities in the area.
