Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Dr. Nihal Thomas, Associate Director, Christian Medical College Vellore Vs State of Andhra Pradesh dated 27/01/2020 regarding air and noise pollution in the process of stone quarrying, close to the CMC Chittoor Campus, affecting the health of the patients in the hospital, apart from damaging the environment.

Report submitted by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board informed the Tribunal that stone crushing and mining units were inspected and in view of the deficiencies found, show cause notices were issued and thereafter closure order was passed. Counsel for the State PCB states that proceedings have also been initiated to assess and recover compensation.

The NGT directed that compensation should be levied for the entire period of violation upto five years.
