Judgment of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Nand Kumar Vs Govt. of NCT of Delhi dated 25/02/2022.

The matter related to illegal and unauthorized abstraction of ground water. The Tribunal, November 1, 2019 constituted a joint committee comprising Deputy Commissioner, South and Delhi Jal Board to look into the matter and take appropriate action in accordance with law and furnish a factual and action taken report. A report, August 16, 2020 informed that out of a total of 131 illegal bore wells, 109 were sealed.

However, with regard to assessment of compensation and other legal action, nothing was stated in the said report though the Tribunal had already directed. The NGT directed the concerned authorities to determine environmental compensation against all the violators.
