Report filed by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board regarding implementation of the notification issued by the state of Tamil Nadu banning single use plastics within the state.

The units which were manufacturing throw away plastics illegally were being identified during regular inspection and monitoring process and also brought to the knowledge of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. Directions for closure and disconnection of power supply were issued to 117 industries who were involved in the manufacture of banned plastic from January 2019 to October 2021.

"In spite of various awareness and enforcement activities, it was found difficult to identify all plastic units manufacturing banned plastic items "which may co-exist and operate illegally in a small space within residential/commercial establishments," the report, June 10, 2022 stated.
