Report by Jammu & Kashmir on steps taken to prevent illegal mining, discharge of sewage and dumping of solid waste into river Doodh Ganga and Mamath Kull, 24/06/2022 [1]

Report by Jammu & Kashmir in the matter of Raja Muzaffar Bhat Vs Union of India & Others, 24/06/2022. The action taken report was in compliance to the National Green Tribunal order, March 8, 2022.

An application was filed before the NGT for steps to prevent illegal mining, discharge of sewage and dumping of solid waste into river Doodh Ganga and Mamath Kull.

The Housing and Urban Development has filed the detailed report, January 14, 2022 with respect to the sewage management, solid waste management, awareness activities and regulation of mining activities alongside the river Doodh Ganga and Mamath Kull. The report said that the total sewage generation on Doodh Ganga beyond Baghi Mehtab under the jurisdiction of urban local bodies, Kashmir is 4.30 MLD and "all this untreated sewage is now proposed to be treated by way of sewage treatment plants."

Extraction of river bed material from the Mamath Kul has been completely stopped after the only exit point near Mamath bridge was closed. The Deputy Commissioner, Budgam vide order dated July 13, 2021 constituted multi departmental teams at sub-divisional and tehsil level to curb the illegitimate extraction of minerals in the district.
