Encroachment within buffer zones of lakes and tanks have been removed in Hyderabad and neighbouring areas. However, due to pending litigations and cases filed by the landlords, some of the encroachments could not be removed. Thereby the lake protection works are stalled in that area. For lake boundary protection works, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has sanctioned funds for Rs. 94.17 crores for erection of chain link fencing around 63 lakes.

The said lake protection fencing works have been completed around 70 per cent and 30 per cent could not be completed due to pending cases in various courts, according to the report filed by the North Tanks Division, Hyderabad.
