Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Daljeet Singh & Others Vs Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board & Others dated 16/01/2023.

Grievance in the application is that despite directlng stopping of illegal mining in Shamli and Saharanpur districts and recovering compensation, illegal mining was still continuing and compensation was not being recovered.

The report filed by the UPPCB, January 11, 2023 found that while "some leases which were operating in violation of law are no longer operational and some steps have been taken to fix liability for past illegal operations, two of the mines are still operational even though they were violators for which compensation was assessed which has still not been paid".

The NGT directed that further remedial measures be taken and operation of mines be allowed only after compliance, including payment of assessed compensation.
