Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Awadhesh Kumar Pandey Vs State of Jharkhand & Others dated 03/10/2023.

The matter related to pollution caused by M/s. D. D. Steel & Power Limited. It was alleged that highly polluting industrial effluents were being discharged directly into the air and nearby drains and fields also inflicting damage to local flora.

The NGT directed notice to be issued to the Central Pollution Control Board, Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) and M/s D.D. Steel & Power Limited.

The court also directed a three member committee. The committee has been mandated to visit the site and submit its report with regard to the allegations made in the application within three weeks. In case violations are found, the committee will recommend penalty as well as environmental compensation and also suggest remedial measures if any, the order said.
